The Church of Saïdet El Fakira - or the Church of Our Lady the Poor. Built in the 17th Century, it was restored in 1965 with the help of the Directorate General of Antiques. Originally this church was Greek-Orthodox, but following a violent disagreement between the Sayfa family of Tripoli who were the caretakers and the local priest’s family, it was given to the Greek Catholics as an act of their reconciliation, as related in the writings of Father Alphonse Sabbagh. This church possesses one of the most attractive white marble altars, and certainly the most beautiful tower and the best sounding bell.
