The Beautiful Portico
of Our Lady of the Rosary

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Built in the 17^th Century, it was restored in 1982 to its original design. The plan is a simple basilical style with its ridged arches. The nave is about eighteen meters long and ten meters wide and the main altar is of carved white marble. The walls are about one meter thick.

In front of the main entrance the courtyard is paved in “bouzennar” stone. The way it is cut shows the pink and white colors characteristic of this stone which is quarried locally by the Hajj family and was used to decorate the entrance and hallways of many of Deir’s old houses. A vaulted passageway leads us to the Church of Saint Elie.
