The Chapel of the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception. Built in 1777, this chapel is situated in one of the oldest quarters of DeirElQamar. It is believed that it was here in 1860, prior to the terrible slaughter of the Christian population of DeirElQamar, the citizens met to decide whether they should give up their arms to the Ottomans, or whether they should fight off the invaders. Apparently they could not agree, at which point one of the townspeople cried out “Deir is destroyed”. Unfortunately the events, which followed, proved him right.
